Olivier Proulx, the lead producer of The Sims Bowling, spoke of the challenges of creating an entirely new Sims game:
We faced several challenges in creating The Sims Bowling. First, we needed to come up with an innovative approach to the classic game of Bowling. New game modes like Spare-a-thon and Strike-a-thon were added, and we also created the Online Derby, in which up to five players can bowl online at the same time. Adding chat rooms and online player rankings to this feature further enhanced the feeling of The Sims community. Another challenge was how to integrate the popularity aspiration from the PC game into The Sims Bowling. We decided that achieving bowling milestones would lead to increased popularity and more fans. Of course, as with any title we build, we sought to make the game visually elegant. This meant developing a 3-D build for higher-end handsets, and a 2-D build to capture the rest of the market. I think what we've created is compelling, fun, and true to the flavor and feel of the Sims. |
